Past Winners

Past winners of the Fire Awareness Awards in 2009 include:

Amy Foster, Jessica Bedggood, Tim Liddell and Sam Montague students at Maffra Secondary College won the Education Award for their Teenagers in Emergencies Initiative.

The fire project consisted of a consultation process with 160 teenagers in the Maffra area to create the Teenagers in Emergencies booklet. This provides teenagers with practical solutions to prepare for, and respond to, emergencies. The students also organised practical sessions at their school with groups of students learning basic bushfire and flood safety skills.

Maffra Secondary College was also the recipient of the 2009 $10,000 RACV Insurance Fire Safety Grant to further develop this project.

2010 - we're focusing on communities

Recognising the great projects carried out by members of the community, eight new Community Award categories have been introduced for this year's Fire Awareness Awards.

The new categories include Community Preparedness, Volunteer, Individual Achievement, Recovery, Multicultural, Youth and Aged/Disability. These awards are an opportunity to acknowledge individuals or community groups for their fire projects that reduce the number of fires, or the effects of fires, anywhere in Victoria.

Check out more information about each of these new community awards and enter your fire project.
